We are on day five (!) of the Powerbook outage. I pretty much lost my will to live on day three. I did order a new hard drive today, as I am about 80% sure it is the problem. In the 20% of uncertainty lies a Very Big Check I do not want to write to Apple.

The issue is not the lost files, although I did lose some. Mostly I lost my direction in (online) life. Are there blogs out there besides Dooce and Kottke? I have no idea, because I lost all of my RSS feeds. Also, the Powerbook allowed me to browse the internet while watching television, my two biggest time-wasting activities, so at least I only squandered half the time on them. I had everything (software, bookmarks, email accounts, etc.) all set up for maximum productivity (or, depending on how you look at it, unproductivity), and I just cannot bring myself to spend the time to fix my PC up that way.

Sorry, just complaining.

I hate Macs…high-powered, over-priced crap for old people and people who make videos – sell it and get something reliable that you can fix without having Steve Jobs come over and give you the secret fix right before erasing your memory so that you won’t reveal it to anyone.

Don’t blame the Mac… Back up!

I’ve been without my main computer for almost a month now; a month! I’m going crazy because I don’t have any of my bookmarks, so I feel your pain!

I don’t hate macs… but certainly i don’t see the obsession a lot of people have. I don’t mean you Maura as you still have your PC (you might not use it but you can probably see a few uses for it). I mean the people who swear by them and won’t touch anything non-Macintosh.

All i’m saying is apparently the Macs aren’t all perfect as these ‘enthusiasts’ claim. Your powerbook has now had exactly one more problem than my 2 year old Dell Inspiron laptop has had. I hope you get it worked out soon Maura.
