Teachers

I think I’ve touched on this before, but I have quite the soft spot for teachers. Geeks, too, but for this post, we’re talking about teachers. And especially elementary school teachers. Some people are surprised to find out I love kids, but I do, and I can appreciate what handling 20-30 elementary schoolers all day is like, hence my soft spot.

Last night Allen, my brother, told me he bought this Timbuk2 bag, the Billboard Messenger. I congratulated him on his fine purchase, telling him he’d have it for life. Allen (predictably, from my opening paragraph) is earning a degree in elementary education. All of a sudden it hit me that he’d have that bag when he actually had a classroom, would tote graded papers and a brown-bag lunch and shiny red apples and maybe craft projects in it, and I pretty much exploded from the cuteness. I said, and I quote, “Aww, you can bring your school stuff to your classroom every day in it! Aww. Teacher. Awww.”

He went on to tell me he was hoping the center panel on the bag was dry-erase marker-friendly, because if so he’d carry around some Expos for girls to write their numbers on it. Then he can get married and have nieces and nephews for me to play with.

Oh wait, that last part was me hoping.

i have recently come to appreciate elementary school teachers as well. especially after having subpar college professors. with elementary school teachers, it’s not like there’s big bucks or prestige or anything in it for them. teachers are saints.
