Sounds like…

Yesterday’s post reminded me of another funny, early days at my job story. When I first started work, my bosses had trouble pronouncing my name. You know, people mispronounce my name all that time, and I’m not even going to complain about it right now, and it’s not that big of a deal, but since I was going to be working for them, it had to be corrected. I wrote the following on the whiteboard:

And, lucky me, it worked.

that’s great. That reminds me of how I taught my students how é is supposed to sound. We have a janitor named Tim who always says, “heeeeyyyy.” So, I started calling é “e accent Tim” instead of “e accent aigu.” It worked.

And that worked? They say MY name wrong.

yeah i have tried the whole “KAY-lee” thing with people and it still comes out as kayla and or kylie. but yeah i totally thought your name was pronounced MAR-a.

Hey, as far as that picture of the 1st base coach, maybe you were being ornery with your comment, but what he’s doing is just keeping track of the balls and strikes and the amount of outs so that he knows what to remind the players of IF they make it to first.

I can’t believe that people mispronounce your name. It seems pretty obvious to me. With Stephanie I never get mispronunciation, but I do get misspellings (Stephane is the most frequent) and I often get called “Jennifer” instead.

  6. Jaemie says:

People like to pronounce the extra “e” in my name so that it ends up coming out like jay-EE-mee. Sorry folks, my parents just thought that I needed to be different … and difficult.

And don’t even get me started on my last name …
