On Being Incredibly Influential
Almost a month ago (yikes!), I posted about my newfound love for the Minnesota band, Tapes ‘n Tapes. (In fact, as an update, I mentioned I thought my love was fleeting, but I still listen to the album regularly.) Anyway, a few weeks ago, I attempted to see a Tapes ‘n Tapes show. I say attempted because, upon arrival, the only greeting was a Manila envelope tacked on the door, “6-9-06 SOLD OUT” written in black marker across it.
What? Sold out? Who has even heard of Tapes ‘n Tapes? It couldn’t be that they rocked SXSW or the “generally favorable reviews” or anything. It must have been because I talked about them on my incredibly influential blog.
More recently, I posted about how I rediscovered Ryan Adam’s album, Gold. Emma made a comment about how her favorite Ryan Adams song is probably “To Be Young.” A day or two later, “To Be Young” overtook his cover of “Wonderwall” as the most downloaded Ryan Adams song on iTunes (it’s back now). Coincidence? We think not.
Okay, these things are coincidences, but I still like to pretend i’m Incredibly Influential™.
