I’ve been working on a refresh for the site for some time now, tinkering in the evenings and dutifully checking into Subversion. Even though it’s mostly a code refresh for myself, I was planning on putting it up on November 1st to coincide with Day One. About a week ago I gave up hope but continued tinkering away. Also, I was really looking forward to Dooce‘s redesign on the same day, but alas. Denied.
Anyway, I thought I’d let you know some of the tools I’m using this time around; maybe you’ll find something helpful.
- Django — duh
- Subversion — don’t leave home without it
- Syncotype — I am using an 18px baseline grid
- Grid Layout JS — fun, useful, and I love how things like this and a baseline grid make the designs of us non-designers look well-planned
- jQuery — my only JavaScript toolkit
I’m also trying to incorporate Google Maps and my (better) Flickr photos in a better way.

I remember you talking about this and I was kind of excited because you don’t redesign a lot. And even though I don’t know what syncotype or subversion are – I am excited to see what you come up with.
