Bone Garden Cantina
Shaun and I are frequent patrons of The Vortex, especially now that we live next door. The Vortex is a two-location restaurant in Atlanta known especially for their burgers. Recently, or semi-recently, the fine folks who brought you The Vortex opened a Mexican restaurant, the Bone Garden Cantina, which we tried out this past Friday night.
We have a big passion for Mexican food, and at home we mostly cook authentic Mexican recipes from Rick Bayless. While I love the pool of melted cheese and refried beans kind of Mexican, I was really curious to see what someone else considered authentic.
When you arrive they bring you chips (light and crispy) and salsa (fair). We also got a pitcher of house margaritas, which were quite good. We ordered the mahi mahi ceviche, curious to compare it to our own. (They weren’t that far off. Theirs was a bit dryer, and I’m curious if they strain the lime juice or just use less.) The menu is all à la carte, so you can mix and match tacos, enchiladas, burritos, tamales, empanadas, quesadillas and sopes. Speaking of sopes, I got the roasted pork sope, which, when served with salsa verde, was pretty much a meal made just for me.
The decor of the place is very cool: colorful, Day of the Dead-themed. You can see some pictures of the interior in this review by The Blissful Glutton. Overall I really enjoyed our experience (very much thanks to our server, Aimee), and I would definitely return.
