marijuana

03 nov 04

I am completely over the overdramatic reaction to the election, from both sides I might add. Let’s move on. We’ve got things to do.

I have to say, though, my biggest disappointment of the day was the defeat of Measure 2 in Alaska. Go look it up. You back? Okay. Now, before you paint me as a stoned, tree-hugging hippie, know that I think pot is stupid, and I shower twice a day. The trees you’ve got me on. I like trees.

Anyway, we spend billions of dollars “fighting” marijuana. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say there are probably a lot better things we could be spending our tax dollars on, like, say, education. In some states, possessing an ounce of marijuana is a felony. A felony! To the best of general knowledge, no one has ever died of a marijuana overdose. Can you say that about alcohol? And yet, which one is legal?

Honestly, I don’t want to smoke pot, I wish others wouldn’t smoke pot, and I don’t want my children to smoke pot. I just think we spend way too much time, energy, and, more importantly, money on this trivial issue. But I’m flexible on this. Offer an alternate scenario.

You be flyin’ high lika kite, man. Who gave you the good stuff.

I also bathe 2, sometimes 3, times a day. My opinion on marijuana? Don’t care for it. But, I believe we need a reason to make things illegal in this country, not to make them legal. As you stated, alcohol abuse is a major problem in this country. It leads to domestic abuse, recklessness, health problems, and most importantly, a not so fresh feeling the morning after. Who is to say that marijuana would not cause similar problems if it were legal? I don’t know. But, I personally do not feel that a lot of people are just waiting around for legalization to smoke up. Therefore, I believe the issue of legalization to be a non-issue.

Now, it’s time to share.

Pot kills brain cells. I know this because someone very close to me has smoked it for my entire life. I’ve watched her go from an intelligent, reasonable person to a slovenly, depressed addict that cannot make a decision and almost never leaves the house.

However, this process took over 30 years. I agree with you in your statement that alcohol does as much or more damage in a shorter amount of time.

didn’t you say that you scored some Waldo to watch the Presidential race?

Legalize it so evolution can aturally elminate a lot of these “hippies” and others who like their Waldo.

Remember, if it’s legalized, it’ll be manufactured, taxed, regulated, etc. It will be a boom industry for a long time.

Damnit. Foiled again. I don’t smoke pot either, but it’s not like having it being illegal is stopping anyone. Quite wasting money and just let us have our own fun at fucking around with our bodies.

Gee, when you put it like that…How silly of me to think that - even as a non-American - the Presidential election and the outcome the result will have on the country were actually important. :/

  1. No one said that the outcome of the Presidential election wasn’t important.

  2. I would be offended, but I just smoked a whole bunch of pot.

I used to smoke pot then I got pregnant and I realized I have to quit it altogether. I know people that smoke pot and most of them have gone to jail for possession. And the money the government spends every year for something petty like marijuana is much rather spent on something more important. I’m not saying that pot isn’t as dangerous as other drugs, but it is. It causes a lot of heart problems and also psychological problems…like panic disorders.

But I agree, the money should be spent on much more important things like education. Throw in healthcare in there, too. And as far as marijuana, maybe they need to spend money on rehabilitation than locking people up.

Ok, so you’re not a pot smoker, to each their own. But since you’re a tree-hugger you might be interested in the fact that hemp plants could do wonders for paper companies. It is possible to grow a low/no-THC (THC is the stuff that makes you high) hemp plant and use it to make paper products. But since logging companies happen to be big supporters of the government, they don’t offer funding for research into this due to fear of losing their funding.

Another example of how bias the gov’t is is that in 2001 the DEA banned all food products that contained ANY amount of THC (even if it wasn’t enough to get you high) but won’t even consider banning poppy seeds b/c they have opium traces in them. Does that seem fair?
