off like a prom dress

22 nov 04

When I was younger, but not so much recently, my father would use the metaphor “off like a prom dress.” You know, instead of “I’m leaving,” it’s, “I’m off like a prom dress.” Or, instead of, “Hey kids, time to go,” it’s, “We’re off like a prom dress.” It is a lot more fun than “make like a tree and leave.” Not until recently did I realize how disturbing, although mostly wickedly funny, it was that this phrase was used in front of us kids. Wickedly funny.

Off like a prom dress.

I love you, Dad.

That is one of the best metaphors ever. And your dad kicks ass for using it.

I agree with kayleigh. the only things my folks say is “we’re off like a light.”
