I know I have said it before, but it is that special time of year. This time, the special time of year is playoff season. Baseball, to be specific. One of the things I love about sports is you can be completely indifferent for the regular season, but when playoff time comes around it is perfectly acceptable to spontaneously develop interest.
I like baseball, probably more than the next person, but I will admit the game is inherently flawed in our thirty-second-sound-byte society. This is why getting involved only during the playoff season makes all the more sense.
As I noted earlier, ESPN promised me the Red Sox will win the World Series this year. I am going to hold them to that, so we will see how it goes. So far, so good.

The Red Sox had BETTER win the World Series this year!
At the very least, they should do better than the Yankees. That will make me happy enough.

I’d be happy with the Sox winning the AL, but the Twins and Cards are very solid teams this year.

I hope the Braves and Red Sox are in the series and that the Braves win. I hope the Yankees read Jorno’s comments and move to Sweden to enjoy the snow and the blondes - permanently.

Lars: the World Series because Major League Baseball has nearly as many International stars as it does domestic. The only difference is that the teams are owned by American owners. The Toronto Blue Jays are a Canadian team, by the way, as are (soon to be were) the Montreal Expos. In any event, anyone who knows anything about baseball will tell you that MLB is the premier baseball league in the world with the world’s best players. Players from Korea, Japan, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Canada, Austrailia, and many other countries are represented: THUS, IT IS THE WORLD SERIES.

Jason: It’s Jarno with an a just like Jason with an a. ;)
And btw, we don’t have that much snow here. I bet both Boston and Chicago have much worse winters, on the other hand the summer time is a lot better too.
Oh, I almost forgot. Anyone got a safe method to get rid of the polar bear down the street before he gets settled in?

i’ve never quite understood baseball, probably because it’s not played over here. i’m a sucker for soccer though.

Personally, I found the twins game far more interesting than the debates yesterday.
My hopes, in order of importance to me: 1) the yankees lose in 3 (4 now, since it’s rivera’s turn to come in and close, and the twins are no Sox) 2) The Sox destroy the angels 3) whomever the hell plays in the national league put up a good fight 4) The world series goes to 7 games. 5) That I get hired as a bat boy for game 7. No, make that #1.

With me being Swedish I don’t really understand the game of baseball, well not more than the team that brings the most guys home wins the game. We have a sports channel that do broadcast the playoff games the day after they’re played and last year I tried to learn the game but I came up with zilch. :(
Normally this time I would be hooked on the NHL season, but with the greedy bastards not wanting to play the amazing and excited game of hockey for a couple of lousy million dollars I don’t have that much to look forward to. Except that my home town soccer team IFK Goteborg leads the championship and might bring home the series this year. Yay! :D
Well, enough of my ramblings, time for me to hit the books. :(
