columbus day

11 oct 04

I had planned a scathing post about Christopher Columbus and how this whole holiday is a sham because everyone already knew the world was round and he did not discover a damn thing and only brought diseases and opression to the natives and I just want my mail and for the banks to be open. However, I reconsidered, because that’s just a downer, right?

I did, however, think about elementary school and coloring in the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. And the sales. There was also a West Wing marathon. I guess Columbus Day is not all that bad.

Columbus Day will always be Fair Day to me. We didn’t get out of school for Columbus Day, we got for Fair Day. The fair comes this week every year and all the kids go to the fair on the holiday and buy a wristband and ride all day. So, for me, Columbus Day is fovever linked to funnel cakes and foam lizards.

I usually work Columbus Day, but I decided to take the day off this year. I was worth it….

The Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria sound like mixed drinks. Cheers!
