thanks, i’m crazy

15 sep 04

I want to thank you for your kind messages in my comments yesterday. I was feeling down, but to be fair, this is not the “worst week of my life.” I was being a little overdramatic. I have much to be thankful for, and the next time I get like that, feel free to kick my ass. But thanks for the kind thoughts, because those are always appreciated. And I am very much looking forward to the season premiere of Gilmore Girls, too.

In other news, I made the following observations about commercials this evening:

  1. Mylanta uses Lucida Handwriting in its new commercials. This is a font, like Comic Sans, which should be banned.

  2. Philips has introduced a Home Defibrillator. Does anyone else see problem written all over this?

  3. Joey is the “best new sitcom this season.” Hmm, so far, what is it up against?

Directly from philips’ home Defib FAQ, on how to use it:

Step 3— Press the shock button.

Honestly, how many of you would be able to resist repeatedly hitting a button marked shock? I know I can’t.

That said, I’d like two please.

I’ll attach them to doorknobs around the apartment as a sort of suprise for my friends.

Can we add Sand to the list of fonts that should be banned? I see Sand everywhere and it’s just so ugly!

Ok, you have evoked the engineer in me.

This defibrillator, and all first response level defibrillators - ones not found in hospitals or ambulances, will not discharge unless a “shockable” rhythm is detected by the onboard electrocardiogram attached to the patient via electrodes (which are also the shock pads in the models like you listed). In fact, you may be in cardiac arrest and the defibrillator will not discharge because there are only a few shockable rhythms, primarily ventricular fibrillation, and hence the name automatic external defibrillator.

In conclusion… TV lies, Lucida stinks, and who is Joey? (Did you notice my correct usage of the Oxford comma there Maura?)

Sorry. I had to.

odd. i thought back in the day you liked both comic sans and lucida.

Joey will not air here in Sweden for a couple of years, hell we haven’t seen the last season of Friends yet. Thank someone for the Internet! :)

Oh, and last sunday Gilmore Girls had its season premiere, and of course we’re behind on that one too. :(

I think they should have a defibrillator for pets, but not people. I know nothing about the defib, but I can see some kid watching ER and then taking that thing to his brother or little sister out of fun. Then again, they could give it a vibrating effect for those who still play doctor.

Lucida Handwriting is a part of my logo for my site, so I must disagree with you for now.

haha me and my friend make jokes about comic sans! we just mention the name and it cracks us up, it’s so bloody aweful. “Curls” would fit pretty well in that same group (banned fonts or whatever), at least in my opinion

I’m just curious about the defibrilator, they tell people to test it everyday to be sure it will work when you need it… Will it be reusable too ?

filmmaker  /  17 sep 2004  /  4:15 p.m.

The defibrillator is smart enough not to shock you if you have a regular heartbeat. I still wouldn’t trust it, though.
