memories

26 sep 04

Emma‘s friend Andrew made some mix CDs for his high school buddies, which I found really funny, since they are made up of songs that were popular when I was in high school (and before). I asked her to get me some copies, and I listened to them on the drive back today, and I reminisced in the following memories:

“Hold My Hand” by Hootie and the Blowfish

We called my band director from 8th and 9th grade Hootie because he looked like Darius Rucker.

“All I Wanna Do” by Sheryl Crow

I remember listening to the Tuesday Night Music Club CD incessantly on my 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C.

“Lovefool” by The Cardigans

Stacey and I saw Romeo + Juliet on opening night instead of going to homecoming my sophomore year. We saw it again the following week, and I remember afterwards Joanna Kimbler was in the bathroom on the floor, crying and saying, “I didn’t know they died!”

“Closing Time” by Semisonic

This was the last song they played at the “party” my senior year at band camp.

“One Week” by Barenaked Ladies

This whole CD always reminds me of Jon Tomayko and going to see them in concert for my seventeeth birthday.

Wow, those are all straight from my playlist… I think they were probably popular when I was in elementary school, because that’s when I first got into music and radio and everything.

I went through the Sheryl Crow obsessive phase not too long ago. heh.

For the longest time I thought “Closing Time” was a Matchbox 20 song because of a mislabeled MP3. Hah. For some reason I still like to pretend it’s Matchbox 20… I’m weird.

Yup, those remind me of either middle school or high school, especially ‘Closing Time’, which everyone used as their quote in our senior year yearbook. (Except for me, of course, as I was much cooler and picked my senior quote from an Oasis song.)

I hated those days.
