Sweet but Non-obvious Songs for a Girlfriend Mix CD

21 nov 05

This began with a conversation with a friend and the song “Secret of the Sea” by Wilco (by way of Woodie Guthrie and Mermaid Avenue Vol. 2): I’m compiling a list of sweet but non-obvious mix CD songs for your girlfriend. You know, because I’m so good at relationship advice.

  1. Secret of the Sea (Wilco)
  2. Next Year (Foo Fighters)
  3. Breathless (Better Than Ezra)
  4. Catch Me Up (Gomez)
  5. Do You Remember (Jack Johnson)
  6. New York City (They Might Be Giants)
  7. Always on My Mind (Phantom Planet)
  8. Somersault (Zero 7)
  9. Waste (Phish)
  10. Say Yes (Elliott Smith)

Feel free to add and remember: non-obvious.

Waste is great.. Not familiar with the Phish version, but I’ve heard the DMB and D&F covers.

I <3 you for having New York City on that list - that is the best TMBG song ever!

the mammal song. i don’t think that’s its correct title, but the lyrics go something like this: you and me baby ain’t nothin’ but mammals / so let’s do it like they do it on the Discovery channel.

David Gray’s “Be Mine” will be my wedding song. Once Mulder proposes, of course.
