Ice Hockey

26 nov 05

This year, the National Hockey League board of governors approved a series of rule changes , generally designed to boost scoring and increase the speed and excitement of the game (ultimately, hopefully, increasing ticket sales). I have a few more new ideas to make the game more exciting for fans:

  1. Goalies’ padding should be fitted with spikes to deter players from physical contact as well as to increase their overall “badass-ness.”

  2. Four goals: twice the opportunity for scoring.

  3. One penalty box. You can’t even imagine how entertaining this would be; post-fight, the players would be put in the same small space. I haven’t yet decided if you can incur more penalties while in the box.

Next up: baseball.

Which would bring up the interesting situation of goalies getting into fights early in the season so they could be thrown into the penalty box and incapacitate opposing players. The new NHL moto: “there can be only one”.

Then maybe ESPN would pick it up again…

how about this: no more hockey that way I don’t have to sit through it during sportscenter and try to remember what icing is and all that. Oh yeah, it would also unemploy a lot of canadians, which is kind of a bonus.

there is nothing that they could do to entice me into watching baseball short of paying me a baseball player’s salary.

except if all of the players were naked. i could probably get into it then.

Maura-

I must tell you that I am in love with you :>) I had no idea that you too were a hockey fan. I considered posting these changes on my website a while ago, but I didn’t think that any of my 3 readers knew what hockey was-I’m still positive that the other two don’t have a clue.

3 would be ridiculously entertaining. RIDICULOUSLY.
