Integrity

15 aug 06

Tonight NBC aired the classy extravaganza that is the Miss Teen USA pageant. Now, why I was watching this at all is another discussion about how I like to rot my brain in the evening.

In the ceremonial question-and-answer portion of the program, Carl Lewis asked Miss Montana, Katie Blair, what integrity means to her. She answered, and I’m very much paraphrasing here, that integrity is being driven, goal-oriented, and doing whatever it takes to achieve your goals. I thought this was pretty interesting, because I always thought integrity had to do with morals, and doing the right thing no matter what. Or it can refer to the soundness of a structure. I thought, heh, she didn’t do so hot there.

But apparently I was wrong, because she won.

I’ve decided I’m just going to alter the definition of words, too. Like, I think that the word intelligence actually means “has no clue.” Apparently the judges were also very intelligent.

It doesn’t matter if you actually answer the question, just as long as you have a canned-happy-generic answer. “No, I think people should not kill children.” Awwwwww.

LOL, my sister and mom were watching and they howled in dismay at her answer, certain she’d just done herself in and were impressed by the girl in the blue dress who answered the question about what song is a soundtrack to your life, confident that she’d be the lucky winner.

Imagine their surprise that being completely clueless pays!

So I guess pageants can be like real life sometimes!

Oh, jeez. I can’t even hear about things like this without cringing. How embarassing. Okay, then, “work” means to lie around on the couch and flip through the channels. There. That’s how I’m gonna define “work” from now on. Bye…I have to go to work.

That is fabulous. I wish I had watched it just for her definition. It’d be cute to have an ask Montana chick to define words segment of like, the Daily show.

Maybe this years Miss Teen USA was sponsored by corporate America? It would certainly explain why she won.

Hey, just as long as she makes a name for herself as an investigatory journalist… no matter how many people you leave dead and bloodied along the way!
