Replacing TiVo

28 aug 06

I’m excited because I just bought a TV capture card to replace my poor, dead TiVo. I’m going to put it in my old PC (finally a use for it!) and install Linux and MythTV.

No more monthly fees! Utilitarian but probably not as beautiful free software! Yay for being a geek!

I did the whole MythTV thing at one point and man, was that box ever unstable! I didn’t understand it, Linux should = stability in most cases.

I installed Windows XP and BeyondTV on the same exact hardware and it’s worked perfectly ever since. Hope you have better luck!

And it probably doesn’t support channels higher than 125…. but correct me if I’m wrong please. To lazy to look it up myself ;-)

I love having TV on my computer. :]] It’s the only one I use. You can pause/rewind live TV, and record stuff. Totally yay for being a geek.
