When I was a kid, I thought serendipity meant the act of finding something when you weren’t looking for it. I guess this kind of works, as the real definition is a fortunate accident. I’m not sure where this association came from, but now whenever I haven’t found something after a brief time, I stop looking for it, relying on “serendipity” to locate it again.
A month or two ago I lost the battery charger for my camera. I looked for it before I went to BlogHer but didn’t find it. A few days after I returned, I did a pretty extensive cleaning of my apartment, figuring it would turn up then. It didn’t. The battery lasts for a long time, and it actually held out for me until midway through last week. This past weekend I checked a couple of stores for it, but they only had bulky car chargers.
Tonight I checked at Worst Buy, and they had bulky, third-party charger—but at least it plugs into the wall. I was kind of hesitant to buy it, but I did, because it was about what I’d pay to order another one online, readily available, and what did it matter anyway, because I was going to find the real one as soon as I got home.
And I did.

Hopefully you kept the receipt. I hate Best Buy, and its personal. My phone # is one number off from theirs, and everyday I have to hear “Is this Best Buy?”
