Winston’s

18 nov 06

Yesterday on the way to Atlanta, I had to stop in the suburbs for gas, because that is where I was about to run out of gas. I exited I-75 in Kennesaw, GA, noting that this particular exit boasted a Kroger Fuel. I consider Kroger Fuel one of the great loopholes in gas purchasing, because you get an extra discount like at Sam’s Club with a membership, but you don’t have to pay to have a Kroger Plus Card.

This Kroger Fuel was 0.6 miles from the exit, and I found myself in a small strip mall including (of course) a Kroger. Across the way I spotted a bar called Winston’s. Hmm, I thought. Stef talks about going to a bar called Winston’s all the time. Then it occurred to me that Stef lives somewhere in the area now, and this might, in fact, be the Winston’s.

While my gas was pumping, I took out my camera and tried to get a decent picture of the sign. Some trees and the night darkness were in my way, so I ended up getting out into the “road” to get a better shot, which I believe caused several drivers to question my sanity.

Now Stef can tell me if that is the place or just a happy coincidence.

At least you didn’t set up a makeshift tripod (box) in the middle of the road to take nighttime pictures of a refinery. Now THAT gets some weird looks.

YAY! Winston’s! Actually, the Winston’s you mentioned is referred to as the “Wade Green Store.” It IS in fact, owned by the same guy as “my” winston’s - but you’d find my winston’s somewhere off the Canton Rd exit (exit #267). I’m so happy you thought of me though - we should go for drinks sometime when you are back here! :)
