From the Peach State to the Big Apple

30 aug 07

This weekend I’m heading out to New York for a wedding in Central Park on Saturday. I like saying that because it really impresses people. I am not the one getting married in such an iconic location, but, nonetheless, impressive.

Shaun‘s been bugging me all week about what I would like to do while we’re there. Now, this isn’t my first time, but I haven’t been as many times as he has. I really only want to go to the top of the Empire State Building. Oh, and get mugged. That’s pretty New York.

That said, any non-obvious NYC suggestions are being accepted!

you could take a two hour trip down the extremely exciting NJ Parkway, lose all your money in Atlantic City, and buy taffy and fudge… but it’s kind of ghetto there.

Everyone’s your friend in New York City.

i’m always a fan of going to my mothership, the fifth avenue apple store and poking around for a few hours ;)

Ooh, let me help! Do you want a good bagel? (I heart Murray’s.) Pickle? (Lower East Side on Sundays.) An awesome slice? (Too many to pick.) A cliched cupcake? (Magnolia’s is queen, but I think Sugar Sweet Sunshine is better.) Or, do you want to go to Coney Island and ride on the ancient Wonder Wheel and rickety Cyclone?

Have fun!

I know I’m impressed! They must be loaded.

NYC’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the US, so you probably won’t get mugged. However, your chances of being yelled at by complete strangers are still very good! thumbs up

go to Hog’s and Heffers. it’s this bar for southern “ex-pats” in NY. It’s really fun. it’s in Chelsea, but I don’t remember where.

I definitely suggest Sugar Sweet Sunshine as well for cupcakes. There’s great pizza in NYC. There’s John’s on Bleecker or if you want to venture to Brooklyn, you can go to Grimaldi’s. If you like Chinese food, definitely go to Chinatown! One of my favorite restaurants is New Yeah Shanghai Deluxe. I’m a huge foodie. Oh definitely stop by Pinkberry. It’s wonderful!

You should go to the Met and the Empire State Building and watch across the Brooklyn Bridge to Grimaldi’s. Oh, and I know this little sushi place on the west side that you should check out.

If you like yarn, which I have no idea, there’s a great store in Soho called Purl. purlsoho.com (and they have a neat adjacent fabric store too, from what I gather)

I’m down for what Shaun suggested. We should go do that sometime. We should also get starbucks. Why does getting starbucks in NYC bother me? Eh. That’s ok, I went and got a Orange Mocha Frappachino with the Bride and Bride’s mom… But why is that the best coffee in NYC? Shouldn’t there… be something else?! I mean… I dunno. It irks me.
