June

09 jul 07

June was a completely insane month for me, and only now that we are nine days into July can I really reflect on it. I haven’t feel like sharing or writing. Midmonth, my maternal grandfather unexpectedly passed away. I’ve never had a close relative die, and I’d never been to a funeral, until June. (And, as my relatives all live in Massachusetts, I had to hop on a plane the next day, which was an unfortunately miserable experience.) My grandfather was wonderful, and I was lucky to have known him. He and my grandmother were married for 58 years. My brother wrote a really nice post on his Red Sox blog about Grandpa Lally.

Also in June, the ball got rolling for my move to Atlanta this month. Yes, that’s right, I’m going to be a Georgian. I’ve thought about what I’d say in regards to moving for a long time, which is pretty interesting since last year I was considering moving to Chicago. But, life changes and thus my destination has changed. I’ve lived in Knoxville for a long time, too long when you consider that neither my family nor my Shaun lives here. I still love Tennessee, and I will visit the Nashville area often.

This won’t change anything for my lovely blog readers, but it’s a big life change for me. Atlanta is bigger and there are a lot more things to do. I can go to IKEA all the time! And more Braves games! I have a new job, of course, which I’ll tell you more about some other time. Mostly I am excited because my new apartment will have a dishwasher, which is completely worth moving 200 miles for.

Also, if you want to take a keyboard or some of my furniture off my hands, let me know!

So when we drive to Texas we often go down through Atlanta - maybe we’ll get to coordinate schedules on our next drive down! :-)

So long as you remember your grandfather, he lives.Think of him with kindness and you will never be apart from him. All the bets to you

Funerals are horrible. I’ve always made excuses about not going when I was young but unfortunately when you get older you’re faced with the moral dilemma of what people might think of you if you don’t go. Hope you find peace in all that has happened.
