So, I moved to Atlanta this past weekend. I had a lot of help, and I hope by saying this I don’t trivialize my help’s hard work, but it was pretty rough. It was a warm July day, my old apartment was up a flight of stairs as is my new apartment and I am still dealing with an ever-present space issue because I am masochistic and like to cram myself and all of my things, including myriad kitchen appurtenances, into tiny spaces. But, I do have granite countertops.
It’s always been my dream to live in a city where I didn’t have to own a car, and, alas, Atlanta is not that city. The public transportation system here is underfunded and has poor coverage. (I should also note that I am only referring to the rapid transit part here, as I value my life too much to get on the buses.) Nonetheless, my new place is close enough to MARTA that I’m going that route for work, although I still have my car because there is not a Target within walking distance.
I thought after I started my new job today I’d feel like I had really moved, but with boxes still everywhere it all seems (fleetingly) temporary. I did enjoy falling asleep last night to my partial (obscured only by trees) skyline view.

Doesn’t that suck!!! The transit in Atlanta and the Targets. There are few Targets and most of them are no where near a transit. The supertargets are the best here, though. There is however a Target near the Inman park station. I have walked from the station to the target and vice versa.

If you don’t have a bike…I suggest it. Things seem much further away than they really are once you actually hop on and make the trek…though they aren’t good for carrying home large amounts of groceries. :)

I had no idea you were moving! Congratulations on making the jump and I hope the transition goes well. I agree with Meredith about the bike, but I’ve never been to Atlanta so I’m not sure how friendly it is to pedallers.
