A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I made a post about how great Kinko’s was. I had to print twenty or so copies of a short story I wrote in college (ugh, creative writing is the worst/hardest!) for my classmates, which they did in barely a minute, collated and stapled at a reasonable price. This was my first experience with Kinko’s, and I think it brought a tear to my eye. And you’ll imagine my surprise when a hostname from kinkos.com showed up in my referrers. Someone at Kinko’s read my post? This was amazing as I was only marginally as popular as I am now, which is still incredibly marginal.
Sometimes I wonder if anyone else spends as much time interpreting their stats as I do. For example, yesterday I made a post that mentioned John Mackey in reference to his correspondence with Michael Pollan. Via a Technorati search, someone with a wholefoods.com hostname found that post. Oh man, I am really pretty boring, and I said nothing negative about Whole Foods, I swear.
When I made the post about the 5K I ran a couple of weeks ago, I got a lot of really weird referrers to it (including one from Caribou Coffee - ha!). I have nothing to base this on, but I was slightly worried I had offended someone. Hey, I love the Virginia-Highland neighborhood! I just like having a chip for accurate timing, because I need all the help I can get. (I’m slow.)
Today? Several hostnames at .mil. Your guess is as good as mine, but a couple of them seem to want some Chick-fil-A.

I need to find some additional time to play around with this stuff, it seems.

Google analytics and Technorati are fast becoming an unhealthy obsession of mine.
