Tonight I cheated, and it felt sooo good.
I’ve gone to the same hairstylist for a while now, years I suppose, and although I thought she did a fine job, I really wanted a change, a fresh perspective on my hair. Also, I was much younger than the rest of the clientele and always felt a little out of place. Anyway! Tonight I went to the Aveda salon in the mall and got my hair cut there.
At Aveda they start off your haircut with a scalp and neck massage. Incredible. Then there was the shampooing (my favorite part) and the cut and style. I had the sweetest girl who was super-patient and very good. One of my pet peeves about getting your hair cut is when the person tries to make you talk the whole time, because I prefer to just be quiet and enjoy it. Violet just told me what she was doing, told me where to turn my head, and asked me where I was from. She painstakingly flatironed all of my hair and put about five great-smelling products in it. (And all for a reasonable price!)
So it turns out I am a total Aveda convert and won’t be going back to my old hairdresser. I guess it’s kind of like a break up, except she won’t call or really be put out by it at all. Afterwards my boss Joseph called me, because he sees Violet, too, to ask me how it was, and I said, “Can I go every day?”
P.S. Going to a new hair place is always great because I get complimented on my natural hair color. Violet even pointed it out to her coworker!

I’ve been loyal to Hair Cuttery for many years. Went to one location when I lived at home, then another when I lived in my apartment. I even drove the 10-15 minutes to that location a few times, after moving into my condo. Then, back in the fall, I had a coupon for SportClips — the chain that says “guys win.” They did have plenty of TVs around (very nice on a Sunday during NFL season). Decent haircut, at a good price. The next time, they were running a special, and I added the shampoo at a discounted price (it’s not included in the normal haircut, kind of annoying, but I deal). With that, they also put a hot towel around your face while they shampoo — nice and relaxing. I’m hooked.

Hahaha, I went to a hairdresser last week and it was a brilliant experience. I have only had my hair cut professionally twice (can you believe it, twice!) and now I can’t wait for the next time I go… because the hair dresser I went to also began with a scalp and neck massage … and I’m kind of glad that my hair grows extremely fast.
Haha. Glad you found a better place :)

SUPERcuts! They’re the only people I go to because they’re SUPER. This philosophy works on hotel chains as well… I only frequent the SUPER 8.

For years, I’ve been going to the Aveda salon my girlfriend goes to. As the only guy in the joint, I always feel out of place, but they do a good job and, yeah, that scalp and neck massage is awesome.

Oh, how I love a good shampoo! And I’m with you… the less talking, the better. Less talking, more scalp massaging! Now I want to run out and get my hair cut immediately.

I’ve yet to find a place I’ll call my regular… But that’s just me being lazy and not going out for a haircut when I need one.
