MacBook vs MacBookPro

09 nov 07

My home computer is a black MacBook, and my work computer is a 15” MacBookPro. Here they are:

Work computer, home computer

Though I enjoy the Pro, I have to say overall I prefer the Macbook. Here’s why:

  1. It’s slightly smaller.
  2. I vastly prefer the MacBook’s closing mechanism to the MacBookPro’s. There’s just a little indentation you put you finger in to lift the screen. On the Pro, there’s the traditional Apple laptop button/latch, which I would guess would be more prone to breakage, but what do I know. The magnetic latch seems a lot more elegant.
  3. The MacBookPro gets very hot, and because it’s metal, also very cold. The MacBook is cuddle-able all the time, whereas you have to wait for the Pro to run a bit before you want to curl up with it on the couch. </girl comment>

Some other notes: I don’t notice a huge difference in typing on either, and the glossy screen is only an issue in sunlight.

I love that little indentation too. My old laptop has one of those latch things. It was very annoying and I never bothered to close the laptop.
…. I don’t close the macbook either, but I think that’s because I’m just used to leaving it open.

I love my Macbooks - one white, one black. I call them Yin and Yang. I often wonder why anyone would buy a Pro these days. I’m able to do 3D modeling, image editing, and software development with a 2Ghz, 2GB RAM Macbook with no productivity or performance issues. It’s more portable and IMHO more elegant in its simplicity.

if you notice, and it helps if you stare at the latch while closing your pro slowly, there’s a magnet that pulls the two hooks down into the latch. i think that’s very cool. i also own a macbook pro so i’m probably a bit biased.

p.s. happy birthday
