Cake for Thanksgiving

21 nov 07

For the past few years I’ve made an apple pie for Thanksgiving, actually, more than a few years. Apple pie is my favorite and also a turkey day tradition. But, I find that people usually go for the chocolate desserts first even over the traditional favorites. Thus, I set out to find a recipe that was both chocolate and Thanksgiving-y.

Probably almost a month ago MyRecipes featured this Chocolate-Pumpkin Marble Cake on its main page. It seemed like just the thing. I’ve become fond of MyRecipes lately because they have things from Cooking Light, which excels in recipes that are on the healthier side without sacrificing taste.

This cake is no Cooking Light, though. I channeled Barefoot Contessa a bit as I added the three sticks of butter. I hope everyone likes it.

I make my Grandma’s super secret recipe devil’s food cake with mocha frosting for Thanksgiving, which is served alongside the pumpkin pie. I made my frosting with Plugrá this year - definitely nowhere near the realm of Cooking Light! In short, I am pro-Chocolate Cake at Thanksgiving.
