On Sunday night Shaun, Kelvin and I waited in a very long line for at least an hour for Grimaldi’s pizza in Brooklyn. Arguably, Grimaldi’s is the best pizza in New York. The crispy pies are baked in a coal-fired brick oven. We chose sausage, onions, and sweet roasted red peppers for our toppings.
Later that night, the “natives” (their friend Michelle and her newly husbanded Louis) said they really preferred John’s pizza to Grimaldi’s. Luckily, Shaun and I needed a lunch destination on Monday so we tried it out.
So, there were no lines at John’s and the wait staff weren’t just interested in getting us through for the next group in line. Nice. We ordered the closest thing to our Grimaldi’s pizza possible: sausage, onions, and red and green bell peppers. It was good, and it’s really hard to declare a winner. John’s has a much better atmosphere but the roasted red peppers at Grimaldi’s might be my favorite pizza topping ever. Mmm. Two pies in twenty-four hours.
On Monday’s plane ride back to Atlanta I said to Shaun, “Hey, you know what we should get for dinner?” “What?” “Fellini’s.”
