If you’re reading this that means you’ve come along for a little ride: new domain, new host, new design, new blog. Hope it wasn’t too disorienting.
For a long time I’ve been thinking about changing domains. Not Myself (as everyone called it, much to my chagrin) was purchased back in 2002, when I was in college, which is a whole world and lifetime ago for me. I didn’t feel like it fit anymore. I actually bought paragiraffe.com a while ago, from a funny email exchange I had with a client. Paragiraffe is a play on paragraph, which I think is pretty fitting for a blog. I still own notmyself.com and will for the forseeable future, and it will redirect here.
Also for a long time I’ve been dying to get off DreamHost. DH is a fantastic deal (well, you get what you pay for, and I mean that) but not the best place for Django hosting. I’m now on WebFaction and have been really liking it so far. You get to stop/start your own Apache process which just makes me giggle with power each time.
I’ll talk more about design and coding another day, but I wanted to mention that I am a sheep and have changed to a tumblelog format. While I don’t post all the time, I am constantly doing things online (in the way of photos, bookmarks, and Twitter), so it made sense for my site to reflect that.
I’d opened this up in a new tab and when I clicked over I thought someone stole your domain. I tried to read the name aloud a few times before reading the first entry so I could figure it out, no such luck - but I feel better having read this.
Looks nice and clean around here - white space makes me happy.

The new design is very clean, and I like that. But why paragiraffe?

I’m digging both the new name and the new layout. I’ve been thinking of moving from Dreamhost too; I just need to find another host I like.

Ooh, I like this design so much! The purple is very soothing to my weary red eyes.
Paragiraffe as a play on paragraph is fun! It also makes me think of a paraplegic giraffe — also fun! Well, no, that’s really sad now that that image is implanted in my head. Aww!
Anyway, I’m excited, yay!

I second on the domain name. Sounds very fun. And I agree with you on the Dreamhost, especially since I was one of the 16 percent of Dreamhost domain owners who were charged for two years of hosting without their knowledge.
